Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library

About the Library

The Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library is one of the oldest at the Faculty of Arts. Its extensive inventory includes the latest publications, books, and journals, as well as those from the German University in Prague

The library is now divided into three parts. In the classical philology section, readers will find primary texts in Latin and Greek, their translations into various languages, and other specialist books on literature, language, or literary theory

The Ancient history section contains literature dealing not only with the history of the classical era but also with its overlap with modern history, archaeology, and realia

In the Modern Greek section, readers can find literature in modern Greek and Czech translations of Greek authors, as well as other specialised literature on the history and literature of Greece and Byzantium. In addition to books, the library also displays paintings, maps, and some original ancient inscriptions and coins

There is a small study room in the library, which also serves as a meeting place for the Institute’s students. We are gradually working to create a thematic open shelves selection for readers. Currently, the library collection is only accessible to staff members, and books are only available via request through the UKAŽ discovery service. In addition to the librarian, the library staff consists of students from the Institute who are happy to advise and help readers.
