The registration of the library collection began in 1947. At present, the library holds more than 30,000 publications, focusing mainly on the fields of the Department of Sinology and the Institute of Asian Studies, including Sinology, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, and Vietnamese Studies. The publications include studies mainly on language, literature, history, philosophy, and fine arts, as well as language textbooks and fiction, all of which are primarily related to the respective countries studied in these fields.
Publications in Chinese are most prominently represented, making up approximately 1/3 of the library’s holdings. Among the types of documents, the library has books, journals, and audiovisual documents in printed or electronic form. Many publications, especially those in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese, are not available in other libraries in the Czech Republic. Worth mentioning are the books in sewn spine binding, commonly used in East Asia until the early 20th century, and books published in North Korea, which are also of interest to Korean scholars in the Republic of Korea.
The library also has a study room with six desktop computers with DVD drives.
