The Historical Cabinet is one of the largest libraries at CU FA.
Its origins go back to 1882 when it was built as a library for the historical seminar at the then-Czech part of the university. In 1930, it moved to the CU FA building on today’s Jan Palach Square. The furniture of the study room, which has survived to this day, also dates from this period. In the autumn of 2014, the total renovation of this library was completed.
In addition to its main purpose – providing library services and a pleasant study environment – the space is used for smaller scientific meetings or debates and occasionally also as the backdrop for film and television productions.
In the Historical Cabinet, the book collections are located only in depositories, so users must always make a request beforehand either at the loan desk or registered users can reserve the desired titles directly in the UKAŽ discovery service. Unregistered members of the public are only allowed to borrow documents for in-house study. Part of the library collection is located in depositories that are not immediately accessible, and it is always necessary to order it from the user’s account or by e-mail in advance.
