The Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies Library makes specialised literature available for all disciplines cultivated at the department, especially particular auxiliary historical sciences, archival theory, history of administration, theory of sources, public administration and records management.
The chronological scope is also wide, from old prints and books from the 19th and 20th centuries to new books. An important collection is the original specialised library of the State Archives School, which has both content and aesthetic value because the school had its own bookbinder, and the bindings are tastefully and uniformly made.
Older foreign productions are also significant, for example, foreign-language works on the history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance from the estate of Josef Macek – often, these are the only copies in our region, as is the case with editions of sources from the entire Central European area. Collections of journals (published by domestic archives and foreign ones) and separates are extensive.
Additions to the collections are made continuously; in addition to occasional purchases of the latest foreign literature, the library also adds (mainly in the form of donations) older works that are valuable and yet to be represented in the collection.
The library has less than 37,000 documents, from which mainly monographs published after 1950 are intended for regular (not in-house) loans. On the other hand, journals, separates, dictionaries and encyclopedias, as well as qualification theses and most books published before 1950, can be studied or photographed in the study room.
