Restoration of library operations at the CU FA main building

Dear users, please pay attention to the following information about the restoration of library operations at the CU FA main building:

  • Restoration of library operations

From Monday 19 February the following libraries at the CU FA main building reopen: Jan Palach Library, the Institute of Phonetics Library, the English and Romance Studies Library, Historical Cabinet, the Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies Library, the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies Library and the Department of Germanic Studies Library.

For now, the libraries on the 4th floor of the building, i.e. the Institute of Musicology Library and the Department of Finnish Studies Library, will remain closed. You can order books and other documents from both closed libraries via your UKAŽ discovery service user account and then pick them up at the Jan Palach Library during its opening hours. Processing of requests in these libraries will take place once a week. Please always wait for the email that your request is ready for pick up.

  • Opening hours and InterLibrary loan

The open libraries in the main building will temporarily operate within limited opening hours. Follow the current information on the opening hours page.

Celetná Library and the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library from 19 February are cancelling their extended opening hours and returning to their standard opening hours. InterLibrary loans (ILL) for in-house study will be moved from the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library back to Jan Palach Library.

  • Jan Palach Library

From Monday 19 February until further notice, Jan Palach Library will operate within these opening hours: Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm.

However, due to technical and safety issues, operations in the library will be partially limited for the time being: the PC lab, the fiction section and the green study room will remain temporarily closed. It will be possible to request books from the fiction section and the green study room through your user account in the UKAŽ discovery service. The books will then be available for pick up at the library loan desk.

Computers for library users will be available in the red study room (just to the right after the study room entrance) and on the library’s first floor in the gallery and the blue study room. The library will also restore the possibility of laptop loans via the LapSafe machine for FA students and employees. In the red study room, a self-service multifunctional device for printing, copying and scanning, a machine for top-up of credit for printing and a special book scanner will be available.

InterLibrary loans (ILL) for in-house study will be moved from the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library back to Jan Palach Library.

  • Requests of books and their return

In the week of 12 February, books from all libraries in the main building will be uncovered in the UKAŽ discovery service, and it will be possible to request these books. Due to the expected high number of requests, expect a delay in processing requests and always wait for the email that your request is ready for pick up.

The deadline for returning books borrowed before 21 December 2023 has been moved to Friday 1 March 2024. This extension does not apply to books whose loan period expired before 21 December 2023. We ask you to please return the books before the due date due to the high number of books due by 1 March. You can return books from the main building to the libraries during their opening hours (opening hours page) and outside of them to the book drop box (basement of the building, opposite the entrance to the Jan Palach Library).

We look forward to seeing you!
