Announcement of changes in the operation of the Faculty of Arts Library

Dear readers,

due to the tragic events of December 21, 2023 in the main building of the Faculty of Arts, the faculty management has decided to make the following changes in the operation of libraries and library services:

All libraries in the main building will remain closed at least until January 31, 2024 until further notice. No loan services of books or laptops will be available. This applies to the following libraries: Jan Palach Library, Institute of Phonetics Library, English and Romance Studies Library, Historical Cabinet, Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies Library, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies Library, Department of Germanic Studies Library, Institute of Musicology Library, and Department of Finnish Studies Library.

Borrowed books and laptops can be exceptionally returned in the Celetná Library (Celetná 20, ground floor of the building) during extended opening hours (Mon – Thu: 9–18, Fri: 9–14). A bibliobox, where you can return loans at any time, is in operation 24/7.

A temporary study room for interlibrary loan services (MVS/MMVS) will also be set up in the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies Library (Celetná 20, 1st floor, door nr. 139).  It will be open Mo – Thu: 9 – 17:00 since Monday, 8. 1. 2024.

All loans from all libraries of the Faculty of Arts, which were to be returned between December 21, 2023 – February 29, 2024, are extended until March 1, 2024. The extension does not apply to documents that were to be returned before December 21, 2023, their loan period cannot be changed retrospectively. Loans that students and employees of CU FA had to return to other faculty libraries were prolonged as well. The change will be reflected in the reader’s account http://ukaz.cuni.cz.
